6 The EdTech Sandbox Series at BCcampus
The BCcampus EdTech Sandbox Series is a set of 90-minute workshops designed for educators—typically post-secondary faculty and instructional designers—to explore, experiment with, and learn about open, free, or low-cost educational technology tools. All workshops are aligned with the B.C. Post-Secondary Digital Literacy Framework, ensuring participants develop recognized digital literacy competencies.
The courses are highly interactive and cover a range of topics, from Ethics and Technology to practical applications like Generative AI tool use. Each session is intentionally structured to combine demonstration, discussion, hands-on practice, and reflection.
A typical session begins with a facilitator-led demonstration of a tool’s key features and a discussion of instructional considerations. Participants then move into breakout sessions, where facilitators guide them through hands-on practice or collaborative discussions using real teaching challenges. Attendees are encouraged to apply the tools, techniques, or strategies immediately in ways that align with their own teaching contexts.
Throughout the session, participants are guided to reflect on what they have learned and consider how it impacts their teaching and student learning. Sessions often conclude with a reflection on next steps, including how the tool might be used in different teaching environments. Participants are also invited to access shared resources and recordings to support continued exploration and professional growth.
The Sandbox Series is a low-risk, high-value opportunity for educators to enhance digital literacy, innovate in teaching, and integrate technology thoughtfully, into their courses. For more information on the series, visit BCcampus at https://bccampus.ca/.
